Considered to be a sub-neighborhood of Miami's Famous South Beach Area, South of Fifth also known as SoFi is one of Miami's smallest and most relaxed neighborhoods.
Although this 2 square mile neighborhood may be small, it is an extremely affluent neighborhood with an old-time beachy atmosphere that residents and visitors alike love.
SoFi stretches from Fifth street to the Southern edge of South Pointe Park and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the East and West providing this little neighborhood with some of Miami's most breathtaking views.
During the early days when Miami was still a fledgling city, South of Fifth was a deplorable area of the city. It was the place where criminals and derelicts called home. Over time, with the help of visionaries and their investments who saw the potential of this area this neighborhood has become one of the most desirable places in Miami.
Miami's South Beach is known for its fast-paced lifestyle. South Beach is known for its active nightlife, high end art galleries and popular entertainment venues. SoFi however, is much more relaxed and peaceful. This neighborhood is known as more residential than trendy. Instead of stocking up groceries at the local chain supermarket residents do their Saturday shopping at the local Farmer's Market.
Instead of dining at the latest trendy restaurant chain, residents of SoFi can enjoy eating at Joe's Stone Crab an eatery that has been serving the South of Fifth neighborhood for more than 100 years!
And instead of spending all of their time in the various stores that makes up South Beach SoFi residents can spend time in the great out of doors at South Pointe Park.
While Joe's Stone Crab may be one of the jewels in the crown of the South of Fifth Neighborhood it is not the only jewel. Another jewel is SoFi's South Pointe Park. This 17-acre waterfront park not only offers direct access to the beach it also offers a kid's play area, a dog park, running/walking paths, outdoor showers and even some art installations as well as a number of different water sports. This makes SoFi a great place to raise a family if you enjoy spending time in the outdoors.
In the last few years the South of Fifth neighborhood has undergone some changes with several modern restaurants and other businesses moving into the neighborhood. However, despite these changes this neighborhood has somehow been able to retain its beachy and neighborly attitude, which makes this area of South Beach truly unique.
