Until 1940, the area consisting of North Bay Village for the most part did not exist. Only Broadcast Key, which was an island at the time, was above the surface of Biscayne Bay. However, a dredging operation created North Bay Island and expanded the land mass until it created the North Bay Village community.
The village has been expanded over time, but it consisted in part of Harbor Island and Treasure Island which were created by the dredging operations. By 1945, North Bay Village was incorporated, but it was not until several years later that Harbor and Treasure Islands were annexed and 1963 when Broadcast Key or Cameo Island was also made part of North Bay Village.
For most of its early life, North Bay Village was a place for nightclubs, restaurants, and entertainment south Florida was a haven during the winter months. Today, there is far more housing, although the islands retain their charm.
Treasure Island is, as you might suspect, influenced by the Robert Lewis Stevenson novel of the same name. You’ll find several streets named after characters or locations in the novel, but you will also find many single-family dwellings on the western end while multi-family dwellings dominate the eastern end of the island.
Harbor Island is made up mostly of multi-family buildings, such as high-rise condos which dominate the skyline. This means that you can find different types of residences that you can choose from to suit your needs. This is one of the more popular places to live, but both islands offer the serenity you expect from living off-shore.
There are good reasons why this area is great for individuals, couples, and families to live, starting with the unique location. Being on an island may seem rather isolated, but the truth is that both major islands are connected to the mainland via highway. This means that you can go into the mainland in just a few minutes.
In addition to the superior selection of homes, North Bay Village also provides many clubs, restaurants, and shops for you to enjoy. This has become a popular place for many to visit thanks to its convenient location and rich history. So, if you want to step out on the town, enjoy a great meal, or just relax and hit the retail shops, then North Bay Village is for you.
The combination of the warm, south Florida sun, excellent view of the city and the bay, and the many different shops, restaurants, and clubs combine to make the North Bay Village a real treat to live. Of course, there is the exceptional housing that offers a good variety, so you can make your decision of which type of residence is right for you.
For those who want to live within minutes of the city while enjoying great amenities, North Bay Village is right for you. It has a solid variety of homes, rich history, excellent nighttime activities, and you can reach downtown in just minutes.
