Officially known as the City of Coral Gables, this legendary community is located just to the southwest of the downtown Miami area. With a population of just over 51,000, Coral Gables may be best known for having the University of Miami located within its borders. However, the city itself offers a rich history, a diverse selection of homes, and plenty of reasons why you should consider moving to this neighborhood.
One of the first planned communities in the US, Coral Gables was designed by George Merrick during the land boom days of the 1920s. The architecture of the homes built during that time were in the style of Mediterranean Revival. This also includes the Coral Gables Congregational Church, although the Church of the Little Flower was along the lines of Spanish Revival.
With the commercial district only four blocks wide, every person living in Coral Gables could easily walk to the area. Today, you can find excellent restaurants in the commercial district, plus a celebrated fire department, police department, and award-winning building and zoning department.
Since it was established back in the 1920s, Coral Gables has undergone a continuing cycle of renewal that has left many of the historic homes and buildings intact while adding new, modern living spaces that provides excellent choices for those considering living in this community.
The Mediterranean Revival style infuses much of the homes in Coral Gables, providing a vintage, yet inviting appearance. The homes found in luxury neighborhoods such as Sunrise Harbor, Gables Estates, and Gables by the Sea to name a few offer the same combination of vintage style that feels open, freeing, and effortless.
You can choose from the many Old Spanish-style bungalows to the modern waterfront estates which are quite popular. In addition, the area offers many attractions from The Biltmore Hotel to the Fairchild Tropical Gardens to the Venetian Pool and more.
There are good reasons why you should consider Coral Gables as the place to live in Miami. In addition to hosting the University of Miami, there are excellent amenities and features that makes this community special.
