Sometimes called Claughton Island, Brickell Key is a man-made island just off the neighborhood of Brickell which is part of Miami, Florida. You can find the neighborhood just east of the downtown area of Miami. Brickell Island has become a real estate hot spot over the past few decades and for good reason. The offshore location is still easily accessible to the downtown Miami area, offering the unique combination of island living while having quick access to the rest of the city.
The man-made island was first created in 1896 when a deep channel was dug under the direction of Henry Flagler. The result of the channel was the creation of two separate islands, one of which was Brickell Key. This triangular-shaped island was expanded over the years until reaching its current 44-acre size.
By 1943, Edward N. Claughton, Sr. bought the islands that consisted of Brickell Key along with the bottom land along the bay. This allows the construction of larger dwellings as the island was then connected to the mainland by a bridge. By the late 1970s, most of the island was owned by Swire Properties which has helped to develop the land for residential use. Today, the island holds about 2,200 residents who live in the condominiums, apartments, and other dwellings on the island.
For those who imagine living on the island near the heart of Miami, the land is a wonderful combination of residential areas that have an unobstructed view of the shoreline and the open ocean. Plus, open areas along the island to rest and relax combined with jogging paths for those who want to exercise.
Plus, there are many great amenities for living on the island, including the famous Mandarin Oriental Hotel. A perfect place for guests to stay and provides a great spa and restaurants open to the community. In addition, there are many condominiums on the island that offer their own amenities for residents, including gyms, squash, tennis, and racquetball courts, swimming pools, club rooms, and many different services depending on where you are staying.
In addition to the amenities offered by the condos on the island itself, there are plenty of things for residents to do. The best part is that the island is just a few minutes away from the downtown area, meaning that there are plenty of things to see and do in the region. Located just a short distance away are the following neighborhoods;
You can also take an airboat tour of the Everglades or perhaps a helicopter tour of the surrounding area which provides hours of fun and adventure. You can also visit the nearby Venetian Pool, an attraction nearly a century old. In addition, Brickell Island is near the Fairchild Tropical Garden, the Bass Museum of Art, and many other locations, including the Art Deco District.
If you are looking for the best in luxury living with all the advantages of being on an island while just minutes away from numerous attractions, the Brickell Key is the location for you.
